maybe the secret to living forever does involve beets and perfume. and wooden flutes.
The Pok-Pok Blues
Every night since I’ve been home, as soon as the sun goes down, I climb a step-ladder in the backyard and pluck Rasberry, one of the family chickens, down from a tree. Sometimes she comes quietly, sometimes she screams bloody murder and tries to fly away. Is this normal chicken behavior?, one might ask. Well, I am no expert. Ask me again in 17 years, (I will either be a professional scientist or farmer). She started doing this after Clarke and Beethoven were dragged out of their coop in the middle of the night by a gang of raccoons. I went through the normal progression of emotions after the event; angry at the jerk raccoons, sad for my mom and for the survivors/witnesses, questioning what really is evil…All I’m trying to say is, Rasberry, I’m sorry. We will keep taking you out of the tree and putting you into your coop with the rest of your girlfriends for as long as you need us to. No rush.

Linda Bergroth created this glass studio/greenhouse/shed/summer house on a distant island in eastern Finland. She added timber floors, solar panels for lighting, and a footpath made out of reclaimed bricks.
